Generation 1, Chapter 12
"Windy it's important you know about the world you live in" Adam was telling Windy, his best friend next to his Dad. But lately he's been spending more time with Windy than his Dad. His Dad's been distracted and his Mom's been acting extra nice; which is strange for her. Adam knew something was up but didn't know what. He mainly just tried to stay out of the way.
Peter took to staying in the lab most days, sometimes working on experiments, sometimes reading but mostly just thinking. Trying to decide if Vallari's renewed attempts of affection were genuine or just an attempt to distract him from what he knows and suspects. He thought he had a happy marriage. But was that just an illusion created by his desire to have a family of his own and a woman willing to do anything to get what she wanted and he was just the quickest route to what she thought would be her pot of gold? Peter wondered if Vallari could really be that deceitful and could he really be that blind! Could he remain married to someone he could no longer trust? Or should he just make the most of a bad situation. Would things have been different if he had just told Vallari right from the start that his Father had disowned him and he would inherit nothing? But if he had done that, then she wouldn't have married him and he wouldn't have these four beautiful children. He wouldn't exchange them for anything. Most important what affect will his decisions have on his children?
"Dad can I talk to you for a moment?" Adam asked as he entered the lab.
"Sure buddy, what's on your mind?" Peter said turning towards his son.
"Well we're studying the history of technology and we're supposed to hypothesis where technology could take us in the future. I'm having trouble picturing what the future would be like. Some kids are just basing their papers on some science fiction movies like Star Trek. I don't want my paper to be science fiction but since the future isn't here yet, how can I provide something that could happen versus something stupid that could never happen?"
"Hmm that's an interesting assignment and anything's possible in the future as science learns more we come up with better and more efficient technology." Peter and Adam spent the afternoon discussing different potential scientific advancements. Peter mentioned current work that was going on at the Lab in town for what would be coming up in the very near future.
Eventually that discussion advanced to Peter tutoring Adam in advanced future technology. Adam was a fast learner and absorbed everything his Father taught him. He tried to just sit and listen but found if difficult when really interesting questions kept bubbling up into his head. Finally he just couldn't contain his curiosity and asked his Dad if it were possible to travel into the future.
Peter thought for a moment considering whether he should share his secret about time travel. He decided that he had shared too much already about future technology to just say no. It wouldn't be the truth and Adam was much to bright to be put off or side tract to something else. Adam simply said yes but time travel was risky as you could irrevocably change things and that some people shouldn't as they couldn't be trusted.
"Oh people like Mom, right? We wouldn't want her going to the future and messing things up. Don't worry I won't tell her. But could we go to the future together Dad? It'd be like a vacation and no one would know we were gone!
Peter considered for a moment and said sure it'll be an adventure they could share. Besides Peter could use a vacation.

Awww a vacation with Adam sounds like so much fun for the both of them. LOL, I laughed when Adam was like "yeah mom would mess things up." :) Haha, she most likely would, for her own selfish benefits. XD
ReplyDeleteAdam's pretty bright and knows his mom isn't to be trusted. They both need a vacation and time away from Vallari. :)
DeleteThat sounds like a fun trip but with Vallari on edge so etching is bound to go wrong! Eek!
ReplyDeletePeter needs someplace Vallari free so that he can think. Also he wants to talk to Emit about the future.

ReplyDeleteYes they need a timeout from mother dearest! What better place than the future.
DeleteYAY! Father son bonding trip!
ReplyDeleteThey need this trip to get away from their favorite person. They have an awesome father son relationship.
DeleteAhahah even Adam willingly admits his mother is evil. But father son time sounds great. Can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteYeah there's no love lost between mother and son. Their feelings are mutual. Adam loves spending time with his Dad and they could both use some time away from the pressures of being around Vallari.
